"The skill of a Haute Couturier lies in the ability to take a concept of colour and form and expand it to the highest level of fashion possibilities. A gown of haute couture status is the result of a measured process of planning, refinement and construction which can easily involve hundreds of hours of hand crafting and fitting before the final silhouette is complete."
Alana Aoun's aesthetic is one of refined elegance and opulent embellishment, fusing modern silhouettes with traditional Haute Couture methods of moulage and tambour beading.
Originally from Lebanon, Alana's love affair with design began as a young child crafting garments for her sisters from the remnant silk her Mother bought at the flea markets. This journey of discovery continued in France where Alana's pursuit of her dream progressed to studying design in Paris. Motivated by a constant desire to emulate the techniques of master couturiers Chanel and Cristobel Balenciaga Alana went on to work in the atelier of renowned couturier Elie Saab. Here she learned the technical aspects of garment construction, draping and pattern-making.
On relocating to Sydney some years later, Alana successfully operated her own bridal boutique creating custom gowns for her clients. A recent sabbatical from the business to raise her family allowed Alana to indulge her talent for costume, millinery and jewellery design through further studies and bespoke commissions.
It was a foregone conclusion however that Alana's unwavering passion for a couture aesthetic would see her return to designing bridal and evening-wear. Her 2014 Spring Summer collection, entitled Le Rêve is an ode to her formative years in Paris immersing herself in the rich heritage of the great couture houses and the recurring dream of designing her own label.
